Entrepreneurial spirit runs in the family
Two Rhinelander brothers are in business together, hoping to become the new model for wireless internet providers in the Northwoods.
Paul and Matt Osterman plan to be offering wireless broadband to Rhinelander city residents by mid-December, or early January, under the name Northwoods Synkro.
Creating a business centered on technology may not surprise people who know the Ostermans. Paul, who now lives in Rhinelander, spent nine years in military intelligence, serving three tours in the Middle East. Matt attended college in Minnesota, earning a degree in scientific and technical communication, spending the last year or so also making a movie.
So, these guys know how to get stuff done. “We conducted a market analysis to find out what people were willing to pay for internet service. And we know there are pockets of poor coverage, or none at all, forced bundles and customer service that lacks,” Matt explained. “We’re offering a different model, and options for internet users.”
There will be no contracts, sign up will be online, a basic plan will be available and add-ons depending on what the customer wants. The brothers are leasing space on an independent tower that will cover the city of Rhinelander.
“We are building an expansion plan,” Paul said, “that we hope will eventually allow us to cover the entire county.”
While the company has just recently announced their endeavor on social media, the Ostermans have received a lot of positive feedback, which took them by surprise. But maybe it shouldn’t; perhaps it will turn out that a couple of hard-working local guys are just the type of entrepreneurs the city can get behind.
