Special Olympic athletes compete at state competition
Two adult athletes from Rhinelander Area 2-05 competed Saturday, June 5, at the Special Olympics State Summer Games at the University of Wisconsin in Stevens Point. In the track and field competition, Pauley Paznonski earned first place in the running long jump and first place in the 400 meter run. Aaron Hass took fourth place in men’s shot put.
Six athletes competed in the regional track meet in Merrill May 9. At that event, Jonathan Ankrom placed 6th in the 200 meter run and softball throw; Christopher Buehl was 5th in the 400 meter walk, 7th place in the mini jav and 6th in shot put; Aaron Hass earned 2nd place in the shot put and 4th in the mini jav; Jenna Laska came in 6th in the softball throw and 3rd in the 100 meter run; Pauley Paznonski took 1st place in the running long jump and 3rd place in the 400 meter run; and Billy Jo Scheauermann placed 1st in the 100 meter walk and 6th in the softball throw. The 4 x 100 (Ankrom, Hass, Laska and Paznonski) took 2nd place in the competition.
Currently Rhinelander Area 2-05 Special Olympic athletes are in the middle of bocce ball season and preparing for their first tournament on June 20 in Wausau. For more information about participating in Special Olympics in Rhinelander, please call 715-282-5592.
