Young swimmers show strength in season?s final meet

Rhinelander Swim Club wrapped up its regular season Saturday Jan. 24, in Tomahawk, bringing home 32-1st place; 17-2nd place and 23- 3rd place finishes. “I’m excited that we had some swimmers as young as 8 or 9 who were willing to swim against 16 and 17 year olds,” Coach Lyndsay Byrka said. “We also had kids willing to swim longer and tougher events. That is really going to push us forward as a competitive club."

8 and under swimmers who swam in an open category are: Sarah Marshall, Abi Winnicki and Sophia Miljevich. Swimmers who were went the extra distance in last week’s meet include: Hannah Hoffhein, Martin Hoger, Taylor Hollands, Lisa Kennedy, David King, Cooper Lindman, Taylor Macak, Marissa Martin, Maddie Quinn, Faith Rhodes, Hannah Rumney, Jaida Salaam, Sage Schultz, Mathilda Statezny, Emily Tinsman, Olivia Umlor, Julia Wacker, Natasha Wacker and Kylee Younker.

The club will be competing in the Central Wisconsin Divisional meet this weekend in Lakeland. The  10 and under age group will swim Saturday January 31st, with the 11 and over group competing Sunday February 1st.  The top 6 relay teams and individuals earning a 9th place or better finish will advance to the Championship meet which will be held in Phillips on February 7th and 8th.
