The YMCA of the Northwoods will be hosting the Clash of the Paddles Table Tennis Tournament Saturday, Sept. 28 at Northland Pines High School, Eagle River.
"Dust off those paddles, practice and sign up for this fun competitive event," event coordinator Marilyn Duschl said. "This tournament is for all ages and ability levels and is a great way to enjoy the competitive sport of table tennis."
All division competitions will be held in the Northland Pines Field House, Eagle River. The Youth (8th grade and under) and High School divisions will begin at 10 a.m. The Doubles Division (mixed ages) will begin at 11 a.m. The Adult A, B and C divisions will begin at 12:30 p.m.
Participants are asked to arrive 20 minutes before the start time for a rule briefing, warm up and explanation of the format. Awards will be given in each division. This tournament will follow most of the USA Table Tennis Tournament rules.
"We are grateful to have 8 tables available for this tournament at Northland Pines which will give us the ability to run a challenging tournament", Duschl said.
Wisconsin state ranked table tennis player, Jim Weiland, from the Wausau Table Tennis Club will be acting as tournament director. He will also be on hand to give tips on table tennis skills. During warm up Jim will divide up players based on their skill level which will allow for fair competition.
All proceeds from this event support YMCA active older adult program. The tournament fee for youth and high school singles participation is $5. The doubles fee is $10 per team and the adult singles fee is $10. Players may participate in both the singles and doubles. Advanced registration is recommended by Wednesday, Sept. 25 to assist with tournament play.
