The Northwoods Land Trust will host a volunteer conservation day at Holmboe Conifer Forest State Natural Area on Saturday, September 20, offering community members a chance to contribute to local ecosystem preservation while enjoying autumn foliage.
The event, scheduled from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., will focus on removing invasive plant species by hand and clearing trail debris at the Rhinelander natural area. Volunteers are asked to register online at northwoodslandtrust.org by Thursday, September 18.
“Volunteers will be helping to preserve the native ecosystems at Holmboe by hand-pulling invasive plants and cleaning up trash along the trails,” according to event organizers.
Participants should bring work gloves and extra water, and check weather conditions the day before the event. The volunteer day will proceed rain or shine, with cancellation only in cases of severe weather.
The parking area is located behind Riverview Hall at 903 Boyce Drive in Rhinelander. Those using GPS can search for “Holmboe Conifer Forest Trailhead” or use coordinates 45.627285, -89.426279.
The Northwoods Land Trust works to permanently conserve natural shorelands, woodlands and other natural resources across seven northern Wisconsin counties: Vilas, Oneida, Forest, Florence, Iron, Price and Langlade.
