Volunteers sought for AIS Snapshot Day

The Oneida County Aquatic Invasive Species (AIS) team is looking for volunteer monitors for a

day to join them in search of invasive plants and animals along lakes, rivers, and streams. The "Aquatic Invasive Species Snapshot Day" is Saturday, Aug. 5; work will take place 9 a.m. - 1 p.m.

AIS Snapshot Day is a fun way for citizens to help protect Wisconsin’s waters from invasive species.

Oneida County has a lot of water to protect, with over 1,100 lakes and more than 800 miles of rivers and streams.

During this event, volunteers gather at local rendezvous site to receive training on species identification and monitoring techniques. After the training, volunteers will disperse to predetermined lake and river access sites, search for previously undocumented AIS, notate species presence, and then return to the rendezvous site to verify findings. This is a great event for people of all ages, including families and small groups who are interested in learning more about our local water resources - the places we live, work, and play on.

All training is free and provided by the Oneida County AIS Team. Sacks and beverages will

be provided. Registration Deadline  Aug. 1.
