Vilas County snowmobile fatality reported, victim identified

The Vilas County Sheriff’s Department reported a snowmobile fatality on Sunday, January 26.

At 12:55 a.m. on Sunday, a 911 call was received regarding a snowmobile versus tree accident on trail #11 in Arbor Vitae. The initial report was that a snowmobile had struck a tree, and the operator was unconscious.

Upon arriving at the scene, emergency services determined the 21-year-old female operator was deceased. Arbor Vitae Fire and Rescue, Howard Young Medic 5, Vilas County Sheriff, Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) and the Vilas County Medical Examiner all responded to the accident.

Today, the female operator was identified as Arianna Rumpf, 21, of Hartland. The accident is still under investigation by the Wisconsin DNR.
