Viewpoint: Writer disapproves of Governors handling of United Sportsmen

Posted

Editor:

Received some news a few days ago about our sad excuse for a Governor that is becoming a weekly thing. There is some good news too: polls show that he is becoming more and more beatable in the upcoming re-election.

Meanwhile you tell me that the following is totally acceptable in "Governor's 101 handbook on governing".....

The facts go that Scott Walker's latest pay-to-play scandal paved the way for his political backers to get a $500,000 taxpayer grant to promote Wisconsin's sporting heritage. This is how it went down:

*Republicans set up a half a million dollar grant so it's made specifically for United Sportsmen of Wisconsin, a Tea Party bunch with close ties to Walker and his cronies.

*Caught at it, Walker phoned in (while on a Presidential campaign in Seattle) a hasty withdrawal, even though he had used his veto power to help the grant for United Sportsmen.

It was found out that United Sportsmen, who proudly endorsed Walker in the recall and have ties with Koch-funded Americans for Prosperity, had falsified its federal tax status and had no experience with hunting and fishing programs.

Well things didn't end there in this huge corruption. The Walker Administration withheld a warning to the Federal Government that going through with this grant would make the State lose $28 million in federal funding.

Matters get worse: The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports that Terry Kohler, a Wisconsin big donator who spent nearly $2 million trying to buy elections for Republicans like Scott Walker, lobbied for this corrupt grant along with R.J. Johnson, a Walker campaign consultant.

Pretty dirty politics even for our Governor, don't you think? The people of Wisconsin need reassurance that the rule of law pertains even to Scott Walker and his Republican Party. It would be helpful if there could be an independent investigation of Walker's latest scandal.

This surely is the worst of times for those of us who see Government by the people and for the people....protected by honest politicians...We deserve a return to fair and honorable governing...now.
