Oneida County Captain Terri Hook released and update on the investigation surrounding the child's death.

"The preliminary investigation indicates that the mother had been moving a vehicle in her yard when she backed over the child," Hook stated in a second and final press release on the incident. "Upon arrival of the emergency personnel, the child was determined to be deceased."

Because of the young age of the victim, Oneida County Sheriff's Office will not be releasing the names of the child or the mother.

Hook also stated the incident is devastating and is a reminder to parents to always be alert to the changing location of their children. Thousands of children are seriously injured or killed every year, according to the website kidsandcars.com because a driver was backing up and unable to see the child behind the vehicle. Elderly people, too can be victims of this type of incident.
