Hodag Highlights: Hockey team hands out awards

Posted

On March 9, the Rhinelander High School boys hockey team held its year-end banquet at the Cedric A. Vig Outdoor Classroom (CAVOC). The team went 1-23 this season but were reminded that the 2020-21 Tomahawk Hatchets did not have a win only to turn around and win a state title in 2025. Coach Wil Losch reminded the players that it is up to them to put in the work in the offseason to make for better results during the season.
Award winners on the night were freshman CJ Sparks with the Hustle Award, senior Logan Leonard was the Hodag Award winner, Drake Nelson was the Offensive Player of the Year with 15 total points. Dylan Shefveland took home two awards, the Blue Line award for being the top defender on the team and the Alfred O. Baker Award for being the outstanding senior hockey player. Shefveland switched positions during the season going to defense and did all he could to help the team. His name will go on the plaque that stays at the rink. He also received a plaque in recognition of his accomplishment.
