Team from RHS takes first place at FICB regional tournament, advances to state

Posted

On Thursday, Jan. 8, teams from high schools in Rhinelander, Three Lakes, Northland Pines, Laona, and Crandon high schools competed in the 14th annual Northwoods Regional Tournament of the Finance and Investment Challenge Bowl (FICB) at Nicolet College.
According to a School District of Rhinelander press release, FICB is a statewide college bowl quiz competition that supports teachers of Personal Finance and Economics and increases financial literacy for the students who compete. The FICB aligns with Wisconsin learning standards for financial literacy and economics, and is an effective strategy to promote learning. All FICB teams are led by teachers who help students study and prepare, as a classroom or an after school activity.
This year in the championship game, a team from Rhinelander High School, consisting of Danek Koniar, Austin Sparling, Leander Sprecksel and Isaac Mickevicius, came out victorious over a team from Northland Pines High School. Both teams will represent the Northwoods region at the state championship this spring, where they will compete against students from other schools across Wisconsin.
Visit www.ficbonline.org for more information about the program.
