Filmmakers Steve Farr and Michael T. Vollman visited Rouman Cinema in Rhinelander Thursday evening, Aug. 13 for a special screening of their film “Ueck” which chronicles legendary Milwaukee Brewers’ broadcaster Bob Uecker’s final year behind the mic before his death in 2025.
“Over a career that spanned more than six decades, Bob Uecker became one of the most recognizable and beloved voices in American sports,” according to a press release announcing the film. “Known for his razor-sharp wit and relentless self-deprecating humor, Uecker transformed a modest career as a Major League backup catcher into an unlikely second act. He became a nationally known comedian, actor, and legendary Hall of Fame broadcaster. To generations of fans, he was simply ‘Mr. Baseball.’ The film chronicles Ueck’s final year in the broadcast booth, as he reflects on the improbable journey that carried him from the dugouts of Major League Baseball to late-night television, Hollywood, and decades calling games for the Brewers, where his voice became the soundtrack of summer for fans across Wisconsin and beyond. Blending candid present-day moments with rare archival footage and stories from friends, family, and fellow players, the film reveals the heart behind the humor and the man behind the legend.”
“Ueck” is playing at Rouman Cinema at least through Aug. 19.
