Town Line Lake Park survives threat of sale

The Oneida County Board of Supervisors unanimously voted down a resolution Tuesday that would have moved forward the process to sell a portion of Town Line Lake Park.

Selling part of the park has been discussed in the county Forestry, Land and Recreation Committee (FLRC) and at the full-board level since 2017, when it was suggested the sale could help offset the purchase of 231 acres in Enterprise.

The public became aware of the sale only recently, and a Friends of Town Line Lake Park (FTLLP) group was formed over the past several months. A change.org petition garnered nearly 1,700 signatures and increased awareness of the park’s potential future.

At the county board meeting, FTLLP chair David Walters presented the group’s plans and goals for the park, which include establishing a picnic area, constructing bike trails, developing a nature walk and installing a fishing pier.

FLRC chair Jack Sorenson told Walters at the committee meeting earlier this month that if the resolution to sell the land fails, the county will be relying on the Friends group as a partner for the county.
