Sheriff’s office issues scam warning

Posted

The Oneida County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents about a phone scam.
In a recent Facebook post, the Sheriff’s Office said it had received multiple calls on Monday, Feb. 16, regarding an individual identifying themselves as “Deputy Campbell.”
The caller told several individuals that they had missed jury duty and were required to report to the Sheriff’s Office.
“This is a scam,” the Sheriff’s Office stated. “We do not have a deputy by that name, and we would never call you to inform you that you missed jury duty. We would also never request payment or gift cards in exchange for missing jury duty.”
The Sheriff’s Office said those who receive such a call should not provide any personal information, should not send money or gift cards and should hang up immediately. Those with questions or who would like to verify information are asked to contact the Sheriff’s Office at 715- 361-5100.
