RHS, Habitat for Humanity collaborate on shed project

RHINELANDER –The Rhinelander High School residential construction class recently completed a collaborative project with Habitat for Humanity Northwoods. The team built an 8-by-12 gable shed for a local family that was a recent Habitat for Humanity awardee.

"Mr. Havel approached our group and asked if we would like to donate the labor if Habitat picked up the materials,” said RHS residential construction teacher Wil Losch. “We jumped at the opportunity."

The need arose because the Habitat home that was built last year did not include a garage.

"This was a local family that had a need to keep several larger items stored away for winter,” Losch continued. “Meeting the needs of someone in our community while learning new skills is a win-win and exactly the sort of service-learning project this class wants to complete."

The class goal was to finish the project by Thanksgiving for the family and the goal was met.

"Habitat for Humanity is so pleased to collaborate with the RHS building trades in building this much needed shed for our Habitat family," said  Dave Havel, Habitat for Humanity Northwoods executive director. "The shed not only looks great, but is perfect for the family's storage needs. We look forward to future collaborations with RHS in helping meet our mission of providing affordable housing for families in need."
