Third-grade students from Rhinelander elementary schools participated in the third annual Recreation Rodeo Friday organized by Rhinelander Partners in Education. Students gathered at the Rhinelander YMCA to learn about safety while having fun.

After the long winter, students were excited to take part in Friday’s active events. There were several areas to explore as they navigated each station with different activities. There was a bike safety area where each student received a bike helmet to take home, pledged to always wear their helmets, and then had a chance to ride on the safety course. There was a self defense/martial arts area where the students could learn techniques and practice them. The aquatics area taught them how to be safe in and around water, while the hiking and backpacking station explained to the students the types of gear needed for overnight as well as day trips.

Mike Cheslock, event organizer, stated this event wouldn’t happen without all the volunteers and sponsors. He especially wished to thank the event’s lead sponsor, Wisconsin Public Service Foundation, as well as all the community support this event has received.
