Rhinelander school-business partnership recognized by DPI

Rhinelander Partners in Education (PIE) has been selected to receive the Friends of Education award. The state Department of Public Instruction will recognize PIE along with four other organizations next week in Madison for their work on behalf of Wisconsin school children.

State Superintendent Tony Evers will announce the groups during his annual State of Education address and awards program Sept. 20 at the Capitol.

“These organizations are transforming young lives,” Evers stated in a press release. “From strengthening school and business partnerships, to advocacy for teachers and public education, to volunteering and providing financial support, they are making a difference for students and schools in their communities.”

Rhinelander PIE is a volunteer non-profit organization that brings together local businesses and schools for the benefit of students. Some of the events PIE is known for is Careers on Wheels, Mad Money, and providing speakers and job shadowing opportunities.

Other winners are the Boys and Girls Club of Wausau, Metropolitan Milwaukee Alliance of Black School Educators, Inc., Service League of Green Bay and Wisconsin Public Education Network.

Accepting the award for Rhinelander will be board president Ben Meyer, vice president Teri Maney and co-founder Leah Van Zile.
