Rhinelander school board candidate forum

Posted

STAR JOURNAL

The Rhinelander High School Key Club and the social studies department, in conjunction with the League of Women Voters of the Northwoods, are hosting a school board candidate forum. The event will take place Thursday, March 15, at the Rhinelander High School Superior Diesel tiered classroom from 1:40 to 3 p.m.

The candidates for the three seats, who have been invited to attend, are Ronald Lueneberg and incumbents Ron Counter, David Holperin and Ann Munninghoff Eshelman.

The public is invited to arrive at 1:15 p.m. to prepare written questions for the candidates. The forum will be moderated by two Advanced Placement government students, and facilitated by the League of Women Voters of the Northwoods and the Key Club. Attendees are asked to enter through door 2 at the front of the High School.

This event was created as an opportunity for voters and candidates to meet, ask questions and share views. During the forum, each candidate will be asked to make a brief 90-second introduction to include who they are, why they are running for the School Board, what background they bring to help the school board, and what they believe to be the most important issue in the Rhinelander School District today.  After opening statements, audience questions will be selected by the moderators for discussion.

The Key Club students have worked with the League for the past two years registering students to vote. Key Club is the oldest and largest service program for high school students. It is a student-led organization that teaches leadership through service to others through volunteering in the community and at school sponsored events. It is the youth group for Kiwanis International. Key Club members elect their own officers, attend monthly meetings and organize service projects and partner with community groups including the Red Cross, NATH, YMCA, Rhinelander District Library, ArtStart and others. This is a non-partisan event, sponsored by the League of Women Voters of the Northwoods.  The League is a non-partisan organization devoted to helping members and fellow citizens develop educated political opinions and act upon them through the democratic process.
