The Rhinelander Peewee B hockey team finished third place at the WIAA State Tournament in Amery.

The Peewee team beat Monroe, 2-1 but then fell to Amery 10-8. The team secured third place overall with a 5-3 win over Blackhawk.

Harlan Wojtusik led the Hodags with two hat tricks. He had seven goals and four assists total. Jake Losch and Conner Julson both had strong weekends with three goals and one assist a piece. Kia Dalka added three assists to help the Hodags and Brett Benes and Nicolas Jones each added a goal and an assist.

The team played with only two forward lines and three defensemen. Jarod Arno, Konner Kennedy and Joe Schneider didn’t tally points, but all three played outstanding defense throughout the tournament. Donovan Fritz played strong all weekend and had an incredible performance in the final game to keep the Hodags competitive until Wojtusik took over with four goals to lock the win.

“All season long we skated with a short bench and had to really dig deep to compete in the third period,” coach Joe Flanders said. “The entire team played a lot of minutes and really got along well together. This was Donovan’s first year in net and we couldn’t be happier with his effort and performance. It is a special group of kids.”
