Rhinelander library announces September programs

Posted

The Rhinelander District Library has a full slate of programming planned for September, ranging from ongoing storytimes for the youngest patrons to hands-on craft and tech classes for teens and adults.

Adult and teen programs

Several hands-on craft and skill-building classes are planned for adults, and in some cases teens, throughout the month:

The Hodag Ukers will lead ukulele lessons Thursday, Sept. 10, and Thursday, Sept. 17, from 3 to 4:30 p.m., open to teens and adults of all experience levels. No registration or instrument is required.

A spooky-themed embroidery class runs Wednesday, Sept. 16, from 2 to 4 p.m., with four designs to choose from. The session, for ages 18 and up, involves sharp objects and detailed stitching; registration opened Sept. 2 and is capped at eight spots. A repeat class is planned for Oct. 1 for those who can’t attend in September.

Chess Club returns Saturday, Sept. 19, from 10 a.m. to noon, open to all ages and skill levels, with chess sets provided. Organizers noted the club has shifted permanently to the third Saturday of the month.

A fall centerpiece workshop, using autumn leaves, branches and pinecones, is set for Wednesday, Sept. 23, from 3:30 to 5 p.m. Registration opens Sept. 9 and is limited to 22 spots; the event is for ages 18 and up.

An Android 101 class returns Thursday, Sept. 24, from 1 to 2:30 p.m., aimed at new Android users and anyone looking to build confidence with their phone. Deb from Help Desk Next Door will cover navigation, calls, texting, downloading apps, Wi-Fi and notification settings. Attendees should bring their Android phone. Registration opened Sept. 10 and is limited to 10 people; call 715-365-1070, ext. 2, to sign up.

Children’s programs

Younger patrons have ongoing and one-time offerings as well:

Baby Storytime continues Mondays at 10 a.m., a lap-sit session with stories and songs for babies 6 to 24 months, followed by playtime.

Preschool Storytime continues Tuesdays at 10 a.m., open to children ages 2 and up, featuring stories, songs and flannel-board activities.

STEAM September runs throughout the month in the Children’s Department, tying a themed activity each week to a letter in STEAM in honor of Library Card Sign-Up Month. Kids who participate weekly, or who sign up for a library card, receive a free book.

A “Learning Fun for Preschoolers” drop-in session is set for Tuesday, Sept. 22, from 10 to 11 a.m., featuring color-themed early literacy stations. All programs are free and open to the public. More information is available by calling the library at 715-365-1070 or visiting www.rhinelanderlibrary.org.
