The Rhinelander District Library will close its doors to the general public on February 7, but only so it can reopen them to a very specific crowd: adults ready to embrace their inner fantasy enthusiast.
The library is hosting “Enchanted Library,” an after-hours event from 1 to 3 p.m. that promises to transform the familiar book-lined space into a realm of fantasy, folklore, and whimsy. The celebration is strictly for ages 18 and older, designed to spark nostalgia and offer a magical escape for grown-up guests.
“Come in and choose your quests,” the library announces, setting the tone for an afternoon that blends Renaissance faire atmosphere with bookish charm.
Upon entering, guests will find the library decorated with twinkle lights, fantasy book displays, and Renaissance-inspired decor. Fantasy-themed snacks will be available to fuel whatever adventures attendees choose to pursue.
The event offers multiple activities, all running simultaneously so guests can create their own experience. Craft stations will allow participants to make an Altoid Tin Apothecary, assemble a Fairy Catcher Jar, or build a Mushroom Terrarium to take home.
For the competitive-minded, a dragon egg scavenger hunt will send guests searching through the library’s transformed spaces. Those seeking reading recommendations with a mystical twist can visit the bookish tarot consultation station, where cards will guide them toward their next fantasy read.
Hairdresser Ann Parsons will be on hand to braid hair in styles befitting the theme, and photo backdrops—one cottagecore-inspired, another medieval—will be set up for guests to capture memories of the afternoon.
Medieval music will provide atmosphere and opportunity for dancing, while Magic Man Games will lead a LitRPG (Literary Role-Playing Game) tabletop gaming session. A Fantasy Trivia competition will test guests’ knowledge of beloved fantasy worlds and characters.
Costumes are encouraged. Guests are invited to dress as their favorite monarch, halfling, outlaw, dragon rider, mushroom, or any other fantasy or woodland character their imagination conjures.
The event is free and requires no registration.
“This, and all Rhinelander District Library programs are free and open to the public,” library officials noted.
The adults-only format allows the library to create an experience specifically tailored to grown-ups who may feel nostalgic for fantasy worlds or who simply want an afternoon of imaginative play without the presence of children.
