Research funds being raised for Lowe Syndrome

Posted

Lowe Syndrome is a rare genetic disorder that effects the eyes, brain and kidneys. On Monday, August 17 from 4-8 p.m., there will be a community impact night at Pizza Ranch in Rhinelander to help raise research funds for Lowe Syndrome.
Lowe Syndrome (also called Oculocerebrorenal syndrome) impacts 1 in 500,000 births – and one of those impacted lives in Rhinelander. Jonathan Ankrom is involved in Special Olympics, active in his church and works part-time at Pizza Ranch. He was born with cataracts, is in stage 3b kidney disease and faces mental challenges. According to his dad, Rod Ankrom, there is a need for research funding: “Rare disorders just don’t have as high of priority. So even a small amount can really make a huge difference.”
