Remember and Honor: Memorial Day 2026

Memorial Day observances are planned across the Northwoods as residents and visitors once again pause to honor those who gave their lives in service to our country.
Harshaw — Union Grove Cemetery Veterans Memorial Saturday, May 23 — An annual Veterans Memorial Ceremony will be held at the Veterans Memorial, Union Grove Cemetery at 4521 Lakewood Road in Harshaw. The event remembers and honors all veterans past and present, families, and those currently serving in the United States military. The gathering typically begins around 10:45 a.m. with the ceremony at 11:30 a.m. The Einar H. Ingman Motorcycle Procession will department from American Legion Post 93 at 9:15 a.m.
Harshaw — Northwoods National Cemetery Monday, May 25 — A Memorial Day ceremony will begin at 2:30 p.m. at Northwoods National Cemetery (4520 Lakewood Road). There is limited seating, so lawn chairs and umbrellas are encouraged.
Rhinelander — Main Ceremony Monday, May 25 — The Oneida County Veterans Council hosts the main community ceremony. Preceding the ceremony, morning cemetery services are typically scheduled at multiple locations, including VFW Honor Guard at Newbold Cemetery (8 a.m.), AmVets/American Legion Honor Guard at Northland Memorial Park (8:30 a.m.), and VFW Honor Guard at Forest Home Cemetery (9 a.m.). The main ceremony has historically been held at Rhinelander High School with patriotic music, a guest speaker, a scholarship award, and a veterans roll call. Three Lakes Monday, May 25 — A traditional annual observance at Three Lakes Cemetery. The program begins with a solemn procession down Superior Street to the Three Lakes Cemetery, led by the American Legion Post 431 Color Guard. The cemetery service includes speakers, a reading of names of servicemembers killed in action, firing of volleys, taps, and the national anthem.
