Independent pharmacy exists in Rhinelander
Editor,
A few weeks ago there was a wonderful article written on the sale of the Apothecary Pharmacy and the retirement of owner Howard Backe (7/18/18 Star Journal). Unfortunately, there was one error in the article; that the Apothecary was the last independent pharmacy in the community. When Howard and I sold our pharmacies we didn’t want to sell to one of the chains here. That is why we sold to Hometown, as they are owned by an independent; in this case Dave Schiek.
To explain, Hometown is like the old Rexall or Walgreen Agency stores we had here. It is in no way connected to the Shopko Hometown pharmacies. It gives the independent ways to more effectively compete with the chains. I’ve also been asked what was happening at my store in the clinic. For whatever reason, Ascension has decided to cancel the lease, so my former store will have to join Howard’s in the downtown location. I feel bad that it came to this as we were a part of the clinic for more than 48 years. Hopefully, we provided a good service to the community. I know we enjoyed being allowed to serve you.
So, that is the whole story. There is still an independent pharmacy serving the Rhinelander community, please give it a try. I am sure Dave will take good care of you. You might even run into me as I do some relief for him occasionally.

Reader: We’re not America without the Constitution.
Editor,
Traditional Democrats. I wonder what you think about America today. Are your elected representatives looking out for your best interests? Did you watch the hearings on TV as Judge Brett Kavanaugh, President Trump’s nominee for the United States Supreme Court, endured a media circus apparently bent on personally destroying him, his family and his reputation?
Are you traditional Democrats as focused on the Supreme Court opinion called Roe v. Wade as your elected representatives apparently are? You know, the Supreme Court opinion that granted pregnant women the “right” to obtain approximately 60,000,000 abortions?
Have traditional Democrats had a dental x-ray explained to them by their dentist prior to a dental procedure? If you’ve seen your dental x-ray, why do those who call themselves pro-choice refuse to allow a pregnant mom to view an ultrasound of her baby?
Have traditional Democrats experienced or viewed the screaming and hollering during Brett Kavanaugh’s four days of hearings? Did you consider that behavior respectful or disrespectful? Judge Kavanaugh respects and looks to the U.S. Constitution as the basis for judicial opinions, not personal bias. That’s why President Trump nominated him to the Supreme Court.
Do traditional Democrats understand what’s happening in the public education system with Chromebooks, common core and human growth and development education (sex ed)?
Have traditional Democrats become aware of protests on college campuses where students refuse to even hear a differing point of view because it might offend them?
About eight years ago I wore the t-shirt of a Republican candidate in a Fourth of July parade. As I walked past the group for the Democrat candidate, I called out to them, “I love America. Pass it on.” Someone yelled back to me, “Then why are you a Republican?” That comment elevated party over patriotism and has always bothered me.
Traditional Democrats. Are you on board with the current status of your Democratic Party? Or has your party abandoned traditional Democrats?
I’m just wondering what decision traditional Democrats will make going into the midterm election. Will they vote to continue the chaos that seems to originate in the Democratic Party, or will they stay home?
Traditional Democrats have to make a decision, because we’re not America without the Constitution. And elected Democrats currently in power have demonstrated their disdain for the document that founded this country.

Leah Vukmir understands the Wisconsin way
Editor,Wisconsin’s U.S. Senators are elected to represent all citizens in Wisconsin. Sen. Tammy Baldwin doesn’t seem to understand that responsibility. She represents the two M’s of Wisconsin: Madison and Milwaukee. She isn’t seen very often in the 7th Congressional District of Wisconsin, unless it is an election year.
Sen. Baldwin has closer ties with New York and California. She does the bidding of Sen. Chuck Schumer from New York state and she goes to Sen. Dianne Feinstein’s state of California to raise money for her Wisconsin campaign.
Do you want to see the money from liberal California Democrats controlling our Wisconsin elections?
Leah Vukmir understands the Wisconsin way. Leah will represent Wisconsin, not the east or west coast. We are Wisconsin proud. Vote Leah Vukmir for U.S.Senate.

“White Cane” support appreciated
Editor,
The Rhinelander Lions Club would like to express our sincere thanks to the community of Rhinelander for their generosity in supporting the White Cane Program.
With your support our program helps to change lives from the leader dogs for the visually impaired, cornea tissue transport, hearing impaired, vision screening for children and adults and diabetes program just to a name a few. With these programs we are able to help people look forward to a better future.
Your support does make a difference in our community.

Send a principled Conservative to the U.S. Senate
Editor,
I know that our region of the great state of Wisconsin is filled with principled conservatives who want to see Wisconsin and the United States continue to prosper and return to the Christian values that began our great nation.
You turned out to vote in large numbers in November of 2016; that was huge. The leadership shown by President Trump is finally heading America in the right direction.
We need to send to the U.S. Senate a leader who will work to advance policies that will keep America Great!
Please give Leah Vukmir your vote. Leah has worked hard alongside Gov. Walker and the Republicans in our Wisconsin Senate. Leah will take the Wisconsin way to the U.S. Senate!
Leah has said that winning in Wisconsin could be the difference between keeping a Republican majority and losing the Senate.
We will not lose the Republican majority in the U.S. Senate! Join me in voting for Leah Vukmir!
