The Hodags boys basketball team had their first game on Tuesday against last year’s Wisconsin Valley conference , Marshfield. The Tigers flexed and came out with an early lead and never looked back as they held a 22-40 halftime edge. Marshfield held the advantage through the second half and went into the Thanksgiving break with a 38-69 win.
High scorers for the Hodags were Kyle Brown with 12 points, four 3’s in the first half, and Will Gretzinger with 11 points. The Hodags are off until Nov. 29 when they take on Crandon in Crandon.

The Hodag girls basketball team participated in the Tom Kislow Memorial tournament this last weekend at Wausau East On Friday the girls played DC Everest and won 49-47 to go 2-2 on the young season.
Saturday the Hodags played Holmen and were in the lead for a good portion of the first half but were down 21-24 at the break. Rhinelander ran into some cold shooting against the taller Holmen team. Senior Ava Lamers had scored 24 against DC Everest but was held to eight points Saturday, scoring four free throws in the first half and two field goals in the second. Top scorers for the Hodags were Morgan VanZile and Lily Treder with 11 points each.
Next up for the girls is Tomahawk at home in the conference opener.
