Oneida County is preparing to welcome visitors from across Wisconsin and beyond as the Saluting Heroes Balloon Rally returns to the Hodag Country Fest Grounds in Rhinelander July 31 and August 1.
The annual event combines breathtaking hot air balloon displays with live entertainment, family activities, and a heartfelt tribute to the military members, veterans, first responders, and community heroes who serve others.
The Oneida County Tourism Council invites visitors to make the Balloon Rally part of a memorable Northwoods getaway by exploring the area's lakes, trails, restaurants, shops, and attractions before and after the festivities.
"The Saluting Heroes Balloon Rally is a wonderful, family-friendly event," said Lauren Sackett, Vice Chair of the Oneida County Tourism Council. "It's an incredible experience for families and visitors of all ages, and it's the perfect reason to spend a weekend discovering everything our communities have to offer. Whether you're here for the balloons, the lakes, outdoor recreation, or our small-town charm, there's something special around every corner."
Hosted at the Hodag Country Fest Grounds, the Balloon Rally features more than 20 colorful hot air balloons, including evening balloon glows. Guests can also enjoy tethered balloon rides, live music, food vendors, children's activities, bouncy inflatables, arts and crafts, timber carving demonstrations, pilot meet-and-greets, and more.
Beyond the event itself, visitors can extend their stay and experience the best of Oneida County. Paddle one of the area's more than 1,100 lakes, hike or bike scenic forest trails, cast a line in world-class fishing waters, browse locally owned shops, enjoy dining in Rhinelander and neighboring communities, or simply relax and soak in the beauty of Wisconsin's Northwoods.
Tourism plays a vital role in Oneida County's economy, supporting local businesses, restaurants, lodging properties, attractions, and recreational outfitters. Events like the Saluting Heroes Balloon Rally help showcase the region while generating meaningful economic impact throughout the county.
The Saluting Heroes Balloon Rally takes place from 4pm to 10pm on both Friday and Saturday. Admission is $10 for adults, children ages 4 and under are free, and parking is $5. Balloon launches and glows are weather dependent.
