OBITUARY: Joan M. Heurich

Joan M. Heurich, age 81, of Rhinelander died Thursday, Sept. 1, 2016. She was born in Portland, Ore. Nov. 13, 1934 to Albert and Ivy (Burk) Marcy. Joan was a 1952 graduate of Portland High School and a 1955 graduate of Pacific University in Forest Grove, Ore. She was united in marriage to Robert Heurich Nov. 25, 1954. The couple then moved to Rhinelander. Joan taught school at the Newbold School and in Three Lakes. She was also employed with the Oneida County Social Services Department and Headwaters Regional Achievement Center. Joan was a member of First United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women and had served on many boards within the church. Joan enjoyed reading, writing poetry and short stories, sewing and cooking.

Joan is survived by her son, Bruce (Donita) Heurich of Niwot, Colo., daughter, Barbara (Jeffrey) Skochil of Eagan, Minn., grandchildren, David (Ruth) Skochil of New York, Elizabeth Skochil of Minneapolis, Minn., Hunter Heurich and Keller Heurich both of Niwot, Colo.;one great-grandson, Richard Skochil of New York and sisters-in-law, Nancy Miazga of Rhinelander and Shirley Marcy of Portland, Ore. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert Heurich and by one brother, Richard Marcy.

The visitation for Joan will be held Saturday, Sept. 24 at the Hildebrand Russ Funeral Home from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. memorial service. Rev. Ellen Rasmussen will be officiating. A graveside service will take place at Forest Home Cemetery immediately following the service. A lunch at the funeral home will follow. Memorial contributions in honor of Joan may be given to First United Methodist Church.
