Daniel A. Sackett, age 65, Town of Pelican died Tuesday, Sept. 13, 2016. He was born July 16, 1951 in Rhinelander to Bernard and Lela (Basch) Sackett. Dan was a 1969 graduate of Rhinelander High School. He enlisted in the United States Army where he served his country from 1971 until 1974. He returned to Rhinelander working at the paper mill. Dan enlisted in the United States Navy serving his country from 1977 until 1994. During this time, he had been stationed on the U.S.S. Stonewall Jackson Submarine. He proudly served his country for over twenty years and retired as a Senior Chief.
After retiring from the Navy, Dan then returned back to Rhinelander where he again was employed at the paper mill. He was a member of the Rhinelander V.F.W. Ray Rousseau Post 3143. Dan enjoyed shooting pool and had been a member of a pool league. He enjoyed riding his Harley and Boss Hoss Motorcycle. Surviving are his children; Theresia “Terry” (Vaughn) Bouslog of Decatur, Ill. and Timothy “T.J.” Sackett of Shellbyville, Ill.; three grandchildren, Candace Bly, Timmy Bly and Braiden Sackett;, one great-granddaughter, Arianna Hott; four step-children, Wade Modrow of Nome, Alaska, Wendi (Kevin) Bixby of Rhinelander, Adam (Jessica) Modrow of Union Grove and Amy (Jared) Harris of Racine; eight step-grandchildren, Alec, Isaac and Abigail Bixby; Conner, Allison and Lillian Modrow and Hunter and Scarlett Harris. Also surviving are one brother, Joe (Jan) Sackett and two sisters, Nancy (Gary) Blumreich and Diane (Dennis) Koshak all of Rhinelander. Dan is further survived by nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Bernard and Lela Sackett.
Visitation for Dan will be Friday, Sept. 23 at the Hildebrand Russ Funeral Home, from 4- 6 p.m., followed by a memorial service. Rev. Ellen Rasmussen will be officiating. Military Honors, by the Ray Rousseau F.F.W. Post 3143, will immediately follow the memorial service. Private inurnment will take place at Forest Home Cemetery.
