Obituary

Norman John Loftus, of Rhinelander, died Sunday, June 21, 2015 which was his 90^th birthday, 68th wedding anniversary and Father’s day. He was born in Tomahawk, to Martin and Ruth Loftus. Norman graduated from Tomahawk High School and received a Bachelor of Science in Forestry from Purdue University. Norman was employed by Rhinelander Paper Company – St. Regis as a Forester and land surveyor until retirement. He also had his own surveying company Loftus Surveying. He retired from surveying at age 87. Norman was a radio operator machine gunner in the Army Air Force. He served as a tech sergeant and flew 25 missions. He was awarded the Bronze Medal. He was an avid fisherman and hunter and he loved gardening and the outdoors. Norman was instrumental in laying out the trails for the Hodag 50 snowmobile derby. He was involved in Cub Scouts and was Cub Scout Master in the 1960s.

Norman is survived by his wife of 68 years, Lverree Lee Loftus; his children, Candice (James) Jacobson of Wausau, Cynthia (Robert) Brinker of Omaha, Nebraska, Todd (Debra) Loftus of Rhinelander; seven grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Arlene Hanisch of Rhinelander and Alice Lewis of Indiana.

A memorial has been established in Norman’s name and may be directed to the family for hospice.
