Northwoods Wildlife Center announces winners of photo contest

The Northwoods Wildlife Center of Minocqua held its sixth annual Photo Gala event on Feb. 25 at the Campanile Center for the Arts. Featured were the 218 photo entries from their annual contest displayed for all Gala attendees to view. Each attendee received one ballot to vote for their favorite photo in each of four categories: North American Wildlife, Nature, Pets, and a special category for the under 14 crowd to display their talents! 860 votes were cast by 215 participants. The votes have been tallied and the results are in! And the winners are:

NORTH AMERICAN WILDLIFE CATEGORY

1) Shelly Ray-"Whiskers"

2) Jane Flanigan-"All Together Now"

3) Kim Singleton-"His Royal Majesty"

NATURE CATEGORY

1) Evalyn Pokorny-"Mushroom Forest"

2) John Klinger-"Entangled Beauty"

3) Marsha Newkirk-"Snow Moon Setting on Eagle Lake"

PETS CATEGORY

1) Jayne Stenstrom-"Winter Play Date"

2) Geri Miller-"Snow Day"

3) Jeff Rohloff-"Misty Morning Fishing"

YOUTH CATEGORY

1) Jessie Roza-"Forest Guards"

2) Lauren McDannold-"'Toadally' Awesome Day at the Beach"

3) Aidan Graf-"Sunlit Fern"

The winning photos will be on display through March at the Northwoods Wildlife Center, and will appear at various other sites throughout the Northwoods during the summer months.

This annual free event which raised over $2,000 to help the Center provide for its 30 resident wildlife and the wildlife patients it treats, is held on the last Saturday of February. Entries will be accepted for this year's contest beginning in October 2012, so keep those cameras ready for that perfect photo opportunity!

The Northwoods Wildlife Center is a not-for-profit 501c3 organization which has operated in Minocqua since 1979. They are located just off Hwy 70 West next to the Northwoods Animal Hospital. They are open for educational tours Monday-Friday 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. all year, and adding Saturdays beginning May 5.
