Northwoods United Way fundraising begins

Posted

STAR JOURNAL REPORT

October is United Way month in Wisconsin as declared by the governor’s office and Oct. 1 signaled the beginning of Northwoods United Way’s annual fundraising campaign.

“All of the money raised in the Northwoods stays here,” said executive director Nancy Sattler. “Northwoods United Way currently funds 25 human service agencies in Oneida, Vilas and Forest counties.”

United Way supports organizations that can show they can provide one of the three building blocks, provides basic needs, promotes health or works to strengthen youth and families. Each year the volunteer board of directors interviews all applications for funding then determines if and how much money each agency will receive. The fundraising goal this year is $170,000.

“We also hold a number of fundraisers each year,” Sattler said. “There is an ice fishing tournament, the Legionnaires Mud Run Challenge and professional development events. Later this month, Oct. 26 is a FUNdraising event at CT’s Deli.”

Sattler said a new activity this year is “United We Bowl,” which will take place Dec. 1 at Hodag Lanes.
