“Finding Peace in Not Knowing” is the featured Mindfulness program, sponsored by Ascension Koller Behavioral Health, for September. “Life is uncertain and unpredictable and this month’s program will provide guidance on how people can meet changes with ease and willingness,” said Kathy Mitchell, MA of Ascension Koller Behavioral Health.
The program takes place Tuesday, Sept. 18, 1-2:30 p.m. at 1020 Kabel Ave. in the second floor conference room. Advanced registration is not required.

The Nicolet College Foundation will hold an informational social Thursday, Sept. 13, for the general public to learn about the work of the foundation and its efforts to make college a reality for individuals across the Northwoods. The event will take place from 5 to 7:30 p.m. in the Lakeside Center on the Nicolet Campus.
Nicolet faculty from a dozen academic programs will be on hand to discuss current trends in their specific areas and what they think the future holds in their disciplines.
During the 2017-18 academic year the Nicolet Foundation awarded more than 350 scholarships valued at more than $250,000.

Support the Rhinelander Area Scholarship Foundation for an evening of mini-golf Thursday, Sept. 20, 4-8 p.m. at Pirate Falls Mini Golf, located at 4380 Hwy. 17 N, just past Menards. The Rhinelander Area Scholarship Foundation raises money for and distributes scholarships to Rhinelander students, many of whom may not receive scholarship support from other sources.
Ascension at Home is offering a free education program for anyone interested in becoming a hospice volunteer. The class is also open to the general public for personal growth; it is facilitated by various professionals on the hospice team, sharing their experiences and expertise in an interactive format.
The next session will begin Sept. 26 with classes scheduled for 9 a.m. - noon Wednesdays at the Ascension At Home - Dr. Kate Hospice office in Arbor Vitae. The curriculum will provide a foundation of end-of-life information, including presentations and discussions about death awareness, communications, family dynamics, terminal diseases and the dying process, pain and symptom management, medical ethics, end-of-life decisions, spirituality, grief, post-death rituals and self-care for caregivers.
Individuals who complete the five-week course may choose to continue with two additional sessions that would provide them with the more specific information needed to function as a hospice volunteer.

The American Cancer Society is once again hosting its Bark For Life fundraising event. Titled “Jurassic Bark: Making Cancer Extinct,” the Northwoods event takes place Oct. 20, from 6-8 p.m. at Dr. John’s Dog and Cat Repair on Hwy 45 in Eagle River. There will be games for pups and people, a glow walk, refreshments and costume contests, as well as a pet portraits and nail trims for a donation.
