New lead oncologist at James Beck Cancer Center

Dr. Douglas Reding to Lead Medical Oncology Services at the James Beck Cancer Center

Ministry Health Care announced that Dr. Douglas Reding, Ministry/Ascension Vice President of Oncology Services, is leading hematology and medical oncology services at the James Beck Cancer Center.

Dr. Reding has been providing hematology/medical oncology services in Wisconsin since 1986. He provides leadership for building Ministry Health Care’s oncology service line, aligning oncology services across Ascension Wisconsin operations and developing a strong oncology research arm within Ministry Health Care. He also participates as a member of Ascension’s Oncology Governance Council, helping Ascension develop its national oncology service line.

Dr. Reding is a Diplomate with the American Board of Internal Medicine, including the specialties of hematology and oncology, and is also a Fellow in the American College of Physicians. Dr. Reding is Board Certified in hematology and medical oncology. He has been an active member in numerous organizations including the American Medical Association, the American College of Physicians, Wood County Medical Society, Wisconsin State Medical Society, American Society of Hematology, American Society of Clinical Oncology and the American Cancer Society.

“I’m truly excited for the opportunity to lead the hematology/medical oncology service program at the James Beck Cancer Center,” Dr. Reding said. “Residents of northern Wisconsin can be assured they’re going to continue receiving high quality, compassionate, personalized cancer care at the James Beck Cancer Center for years to come."

His prior healthcare roles include serving as a physician director for human resources, government relations, pharmacy, strategic planning, finance and medical education. Dr. Reding has also been actively engaged in research throughout his career, and was principal investigator on a number of federally-funded projects for the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health and the National Cancer Institute. He has written or co-authored for over 100 publications, served as a grant reviewer for the American Cancer Society, served as Director of Oncology Research and held the Tom and Sally Ebenrieter Endowed Chair for Oncology.

Dr. Reding received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Iowa where he also completed his medical education. He completed an internship and residency program at the University of Kansas, College of Health Sciences and Hospital, Kansas City, and also held a clinical fellowship in hematology/oncology along with a research fellowship in hematology. In 1997, Dr. Reding received a Master’s of Public Health from the Medical College of Wisconsin, Milwaukee.

In addition to his work in medicine, he has been an active member of numerous community organizations including St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Auburndale, the Wisconsin Leadership Council and Leadership Board for Hope Lodge, Marshfield.
