Wakefield to get second competency exam

A Rhinelander man charged in connection with the death of 26-year-old Hannah Miller will undergo a second competency exam.

Seth A. Wakefield, 24, was arrested a month ago and charged with being party to the crime of first degree intentional homicide. His court-appointed attorneys requested a competency exam at Wakefield’s preliminary hearing July 13. According to the criminal complaint, Wakefield knew that his friend, Christopher Terrell Anderson was planning to kill Miller.

Law enforcement believe Anderson shot Miller and left her body on the side of an Oneida County road. According to the complaint, Wakefield said Anderson was also planning to kill Miller's parents and take with him the daughter he shared with Miller. Both the parents and the daughter are safe.

Wakefield was in court Thursday, Aug. 5, when his attorneys requested another expert evaluate him, at the public defenders office’s expense. District Attorney Michael Schiek had no objection; the hearing was set for Sept. 3 at 2 p.m., in Oneida County Courthouse Branch I.

The search for Anderson continues.

“Due to jurisdictional limits, the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office is working with our law enforcement partners to include the Federal Bureau of Investigations, the US Marshals Service, as well as local law enforcement throughout the country to locate Anderson,” Captain Terry Hook stated in a release to the press.

Hook added that the department does not believe Anderson is in Oneida County, but she is asking the community to be vigilant and report any information they may have in reference to Anderson or his whereabouts.
