The Rhinelander Fire Department announced that Lt. Adam Johnson “AJ” has been promoted to assistant fire chief.
Johnson is from Rhinelander and has been with the department for over 15 years.
Fire Chief Brian Tonnancour said, “Although this position is open due to the untimely passing of our friend and colleague Dan Bauer, AJ has earned this position and will be a great leader within the Rhinelander Fire Department. It’s our aim for AJ to make this position his own while keeping Dan’s legacy intact.”
“AJ has been a consummate professional throughout this whole process and has shown the ability to adapt and overcome many challenges,” Tonnancour added. “I have the utmost respect for AJ and look forward to working with him to continue to move the department forward.”
Johnson began his term as assistant fire chief on Jan. 27.
Bauer died last November at the age of 42. He served nearly 19 years as a firefighter.
