Longtime community volunteer Tina Taege Werres passes away

Memorial services are planned for next summer for Christina "Tina" Taege Werres, age 73, who passed away Nov. 27, 2021, at the Aspirus Rhinelander Hospital. Tina was a 1966 Rhinelander High School graduate, then attended UW-Stevens Point and Nicolet College. She held jobs in retail, real estate, building management and trucking, but also spent much time volunteering in the community.

Over the years Tina has had a hand in many different aspects of life in Rhinelander. She was instrumental in the revitalization of the Oneida County Fair and its move to Pioneer Park. Tina was co-founder of SOS, a support group for survivors of suicide victims and played a role in Downtown Rhinelander Inc., the Duck Chase, Rotary, Ducks Unlimited, Rhinelander Chamber of Commerce and the Red Cross, among many others.

Tina may be most remembered for her leadership which led to the creation of the Shepard Dog Park on Boyce Drive in Rhinelander.

She is survived by her daughter, Lori (Jim) Werres Sticka; her grandson, Max Werres; sister, Judy (Rich) Taege Boersma; brother, Bing (Ellie) Taege; nieces and nephews, Amy (JD) Harbor, Robbyn (Tom) Michaels and Becky (Jason) Childs, Jeffrey (Jen) Taege, Jason (Alexia) Taege, Joshua (Amber) Boersma; numerous great-nieces and nephews; other family and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; and her son, Paul.

A memorial is being established in Tina’s name for the dog park and any gifts may be sent to her family.  The Carlson Funeral Home is serving the family.
