Local primary election results

The preliminary results of the spring primary election held Feb. 15 are in. Only 13.25% of registered voters showed up to narrow several local races to two candidates before the April 5 Spring Election.

Rhinelander voters will choose between mayoral candidates Kris Hanus, who received the most votes with 269, and Steve Sauer, 246 votes. Bill Freudenberg, receiving 193 votes, was eliminated.

Two Oneida County Board of Supervisor races were on the primary election ballot.

In District 3, encompassing Rhinelander wards 14-16, voters selected Linnaea Newman, 95 votes, and incumbent Bill Liebert, 27 votes. Lee Emmer was eliminated with 19 votes.

District 6, which includes Pelican wards 1-4, will see Kathleen Cooper-Loher, top vote-getter with 54, and Debbie Condado, 26 votes, on the ballot. Challenger Jack Flint, receiving 14 votes, did not make the cut.

In other election news:

- Northland Pines School District's referendum passed with 67.8% of voters authorizing the district to exceed state revenue limits by $4.6 million each year for three years for operational purposes.

- Tomahawk School Board preliminary results show Ann Swenty facing Mandy Street in the April 5 election.

- Lincoln County Board of Supervisors, District 12, will feature Julie DePasse and Jon K. Weiler in the April 5 election.
