Listening session on Brown Street proposal July 21
City of Rhinelander officials are ready to hear the public’s thoughts on the proposed conversion of Brown Street to a one-way street.
A listening session on the proposal will be held from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Monday, July 21 at Rhinelander City Hall (135 S Stevens Street) in the council chambers on the second floor.
Rhinelander Mayor Kris Hanus broached the idea in early June and the common council subsequently voted to further explore the possibility.
According to information submitted by the city’s administrative team to the council, the conversion to one-way would cost an estimated $30,000 (to be paid from TID #8 funding) and would result in an estimated 30 additional parking places.
It is estimated that the project would take two days “whether switched to one way or simply seal coated and repainted. One day for sealing of the street. One day for repainting and signing of the street and intersections.”
The intersection of Frederick and Brown streets would become a four-way stop and the West Davenport and Brown Street intersection would remain signalized.
