The Lights of the Northwoods holiday display opens to the public this weekend. The Rhinelander Lions club, a consistent sponsor since the organization's inception, this year donated $500 to Lights of the Northwoods toward a fireworks display that will take place 7 p.m. Jan. 1, at Hodag Park.

Rhinelander Lions treasurer Scott Campbell hangs lights in Hodag Park for the Lights of the Northwoods display.

“The Lights of the Northwoods greatly appreciates the Lions support and also all of the businesses, organizations and people that have donated already for the 2020 Lights event," said Lions past president Mike Romportl. "The Lights also appreciates the support they received from the city of Rhinelander for continued use of the park and Fire Chief Williams to review and approve the fireworks permit."

The Lights event will take place 5-9 p.m., Dec. 11-13 and 18-20. It is free to attend, but food and monetary donations will be collected on site. Part of the organization's mission is to feed the hungry of the Northwoods.

Any donations to the Fireworks display can be sent to Lights of the Northwoods, PO Box 116, Rhinelander WI 54501 and more information about helping can be found at lightsofthenorthwoods.com.
