Lincoln County Sheriff Jeff Jaeger has released a statement regarding the officer-involved death that took place Feb. 27.
According to the statement, a deputy responded to the report of a vehicle in the ditch on Co. Rd. FF in the town of Corning. Shortly after arriving, the driver of the vehicle allegedly fired a weapon at the deputy, who returned fire, striking and killing the suspect.
The deputy, who reportedly has over six years in law enforcement, has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation. Jaeger is not releasing the officer's name.
The man killed is Shawn M. Igers, age 40 of Wausau. Igers' body was transported to Madison where an autopsy will be conducted.
An investigation into the shooting is being handled by the Department of Justice, Wisconsin State Patrol, the state Crime Lab and the Lincoln County District Attorney.
The Lincoln County Sheriff's office is releasing few details surrounding what is being called a "critical incident" involving the use of deadly force Monday night in the town of Corning.
According to a press release, the Wisconsin Department of Justice, division of criminal investigation is investigating the incident.
