JWMS students get fit in annual 3K race

Sunny skies prevailed Thursday morning when approximately 180 boys and girls at James Williams Middle School in Rhinelander participated in the annual 3-kilometer race as part of Physical Education and Sports Week in the city.

Mayor Dick Johns was on hand to read the proclamation for the week before the race as students headed from JWMS to Central Intermediate School and back.

Eighth-grader Abe Laggis was alone in front when he reached the finish line first overall in 11 minutes, 42 seconds. Eighth-grader Izzy Haverkampf finished as the top girl in 13:41.

The top-five boys and girls in each grade included:

Sixth-grade boys

Jaden Beske, Cayden Neri, Jackson Smith, Cole Price, Carter Detienne.

Sixth-grade girls

Annika Johnson, Megan Brown, Sage Flory, Brynn Brzycki, McKenna Brown.

Seventh-grade boys

Jacob Weddle, Jake Losch, Joe Lieder, Zach Goodrich, Isaac Bixby.

Seventh-grade girls

Ellery Werner, Marissa Martin, Delaney Chillemi, Lilly Eternicka, BelĀ Ernst.

Eighth-grade boys

Abe Laggis Walker Hartman, Nick Kriesel, Calvin Schneider, Charlie Skinner.
