Oneida County Veterans Service Officer, and U.S. Navy veteran, Tammy Javenkoski will be the guest speaker at this year’s Oneida County Memorial Day observance.
The ceremony, hosted by the Oneida County Veterans Council, will take place at 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 26 in the John and Dori Brown Performing Arts Center at Rhinelander High School.
The annual observance is an opportunity for members of the community to remember and honor fallen military heroes who fought to create, preserve and defend the freedom we enjoy.
Javenkoski served over 21 years in the U.S. Navy, retiring in November 2004 as a Senior Chief Navy Counselor. A native of Minnesota, Javenkoski joined up after graduating from high school in 1983. According to the bio included in the program prepared for the ceremony, during her career, Javenkoski served aboard a submarine tender in Kings Bay, Ga. and a destroyer in Norfolk, Va. and was stationed overseas in Diego Garcia and Greece, as well as four shore duty stations to include San Diego, Calif; Pensacola, Fla.; and twice in Great Lakes, Ill.
She began working as the Oneida County Veterans Service Officer in February 2006, “a job she’s always considered her dream job.”
According to the program, she intends to retire in February 2026, when she will have 20 years of county service.
In addition to her work for the county in support of veterans, she is also a member of the American Legion, AmVets, DAV, NCO Club, VFW, and serves on the Board of Directors for Northwoods Veterans Homestead, which is the tiny home community being built in Rhinelander for homeless veterans.
The ceremony will also include the last roll call of Oneida County veterans who died between May 2024-May 2025.
Other highlights include a reading of the “Gettysburg Address” a performance of “In Flanders Fields” and the playing of Armed Forces-The Pride of America.”
2025 Rhinelander High School graduate Brody Kowieski will serve as emcee and provide opening remarks.

The annual Veterans Memorial will be held at 11:30 a.m. at Union Grove Cemetery. The event is co-sponsored by Union Grove Veterans Memorial Committee and Veterans Ceremony-Union Grove Cemetery, Inc., located on Lakewood Road in Harshaw. Lunch will follow at the Town Hall.
