Invasive species poster contest entries sought

Although May is several months away, the Oneida County Land and Water Conservation Department is “eagerly anticipating” entries for the 2019 Northwoods’ Invasive Species Poster Contest.  

Conservationist Michele Sadauskus suggested students may be interested in designing a poster about a new invasive, such as the Elongate Hemlock Scale, which was recently found on holiday evergreen boughs sold in Wisconsin chain stores; or the New Zealand mud snail, or the popular Spiny water flea.

Here are the contest highlights:

• Open to fourth through eighth grade students.
• Trophies awarded to first, second and third places; ribbons awarded for honorable mention and best slogans.
• The first-place winner’s class receives a classroom awards ceremony ($30 value), and a field guide for the school library.
• Participating teachers will have a chance to win one of two $25 gift cards.
• Students have an opportunity to participate in the arts and sciences while having fun.
