If the key fits… End of year celebration awards a car to one lucky student

Posted

It didn’t take long for the grand prize to be awarded last week during Rhinelander High School’s third annual end-of-year giveaway. Sophomore Alyssa Kossack was the first finalist to try her key in the door; when the door opened Kossack became the owner of an Oldsmobile Bravada.

“I was really shocked actually,” Kossack said afterward, still seemingly unable to comprehend what just transpired. “I can’t believe that I won a car.”

The event is organized by the Rhinelander High School PBIS team. PBIS stands for Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports, and is made up of students, teachers and administrators that work throughout the school year to collect data on school behaviors, create plans to encourage a school environment of respect and rapport, and to reinforce positive behaviors.

Students are awarded tickets during the school year when teachers and staff witness them demonstrating positive behaviors. The tickets are collected and all are entries into the big giveaway at the end of the year.

Prior to the car giveaway, students were awarded a variety of prizes, donated by local businesses. The vehicle itself and parts and services were donations; work on the car is performed by students in the RHS automotive programs.
