Soccer
Last Thursday boys soccer traveled to Eagle River to take on the Northland Pines Eagles. The boys have not won at Pines in four years so this was an important game in the early part of the season.
Pines led at the half 2-1. In the second half the Hodags controlled the ball and added two goals while not allowing a goal to take the game 3-2.
Swimming
Girls swimming hosted Tomahawk in the first home contest of the season. Two pool records were set in the process.
The first event was the 200 yard medley relay and the record set last year was broken by sisters Malia and Karis Francis, Noelle St. Pierre and Abi Winnicki. Malia Francis would also set a new record in the 200 yard IM. The girls also swept the 200 yard IM.
The Hodags won the meet 128-35.
Volleyball
Volleyball hosted Lakeland in their first conference home meet and went down to the T-Birds 3-0.
Football
The seventh playing of the Axe game took place at Mike Webster stadium Friday night against Lakeland. For the third consecutive year, the Hodags won – this year by a score of 32-7, to take a 4-3 edge in the series.
The Hodags had a chip on their shoulders as they had played poorly in the scrimmage against Lakeland two weeks earlier. Lakeland players were quite boisterous after the scrimmage and that did not sit well with players or coaches.
Friday was a statement night as the Hodags had an edge in time of possession of almost 2-1 and rolled with 438 yards on the ground only throwing two passes all night. Cayden Neri scored two touchdowns and Caleb Olcikas three.
Neri had a career high 278 yards while Olcikas added 156 on the ground. Next the Hodags are at home on Friday facing Hayward before going on the road the Sept. 18 at Medford.
