Rain shortened Wednesday’s WIAA Division 2 regional semifinal for the No. 3-seeded Rhinelander High School softball team, which won at home in five innings over No. 6-seeded Medford, 8-5.
“There was a lot of throwing errors on both teams because of the weather,” said Hodags head coach D.J. DeMeyer. “Medford is a very much a class act. I don't like to win this way, wish there was other options.”
RHS took a 4-0 lead after two innings, only to see Medford tie the game in the top of the third before the Hodags regained the lead and pulled out the three-run victory.
The win advances RHS to Friday’s regional final at No. 2-seeded La Crosse Logan.
