On May 8, the Rhinelander High School boys tennis team defeated St. Point Pacelli 6-1 to give the team 34 points in the race for the conference title. On Tuesday, May 13, the Hodag netters took on Medford and emerged with a 5-2 win.
The losses came at #2 singles and #3 doubles. The Hodags’ #1 singles player, Payton McCue, had to battle as he won the first set, lost the second and had to play a 10-point tiebreaker. McCue eventually outlasted his Medford opponent to win the match, taking the tiebreaker 15-13.
With the win the Hodags go into the conference tournament with a 10-point lead over Lakeland. Rhinelander will take on Marshfield on May 20 ahead of the conference tournament on May 22.
