The Rhinelander Junior Legion Rebels closed out their season on July 13 with a home win over Merrill, rallying from a fourth-inning deficit behind a trio of pitchers.
Eli Bauer started on the mound for Rhinelander, working the first two innings before handing off to Douglas Hartmann, who threw four innings and picked up the win. Nolan Pasanen closed things out with a seventh-inning save, working around a two-run rally by Merrill in the top of the frame before ending the game with a called third strike.
The Rebels scored single runs in each of the first three innings but still trailed 6-5 after four, as Merrill answered back. Rhinelander responded with two runs in each of the next three innings to retake the lead.
Merrill wasn’t finished, scoring two runs off Pasanen in the top of the seventh to cut into the lead. Pasanen bore down from there, closing out the game and the season by striking out the final Merrill batter of the at-bat.
The win brought the Rebels’ season to a close on a high note at home.
