The season is over for the Rhinelander High School boys basketball team as New Richmond defeated the Hodags 62-55 in a regional final Monday, March 10 at the Jim Miazga Community Gymnasium.
New Richmond built an early lead but the Hodags fought back to take a 34-31 advantage into the locker room at the half. The game was close throughout the second half and the score was tied numerous times as the teams traded baskets. At the 3:50 mark of the second half the score was tied at 55. The Hodags would not score again as New Richmond scored a basket and made 5 of 6 free throws down the stretch to claim the regional title and continue playing for a chance to go to state.
The Hodags could not stop New Richmond’s leading scorer Jack Charbonneau who led both teams in scoring with 27 points on 10 field goals, two 3s and a free throw. For the Hodags, Devon Feck scored 14, senior Truman Lamers 13 and Abe Gretzinger 10. Senior Seth Nofftz chipped in 6 second-half points in the last game of his career.
