Hodag Highlights: Baseball, soccer

The Hodag girls soccer team hosted their first home conference game of the season Thursday night against Antigo. Junior Ava Lamers opened the scoring four minutes into the game for the first of her five goals on the night.

The Hodags would score seven times in the first half for a commanding 7-0 lead. The coaching staff took advantage of the lead and played all the reserves at times in the second half. Lamers would score her fifth goal in the second with about four minutes having been played and Sophie Miljevich would finish the scoring with 9:32 left in the contest.

Antigo did not have a single shot on goal for the entire game giving keeper Mya Krouze no saves for the game.

BASEBALL

The Rhinelander High School baseball team finally played a game outdoors Thursday as they took on conference foe Tomahawk in a double header in Tomahawk. The field was not at 100% but close enough.

Senior Ryan Jamison started for the Hodags in the 10-5 win and pitched 4 1/3 innings giving up four runs on eight hits while also striking out eight. Logan Schmoeger pitched the final 2 2/3 innings giving up a run on no hits and picked up the save.

The second game saw Jacksen Smith pitch a shutout in five innings as the Hodags won 10-0. Smith gave up three hits and struck out five for the Hodags. Catcher Sam Schneider went 4-for-4 at the plate and picked up five RBIs. Logan Schmoeger was 3-for-3 at the plate in the second game.
